New Members of WKF athletes commision announced
Two new representatives of the WKF Athletes Commission were named in Linz during the last day of the 2016 Karate World Championships. The commission that defends karatekas’ interests within the World Karate Federation was completed with two renowned athletes so to further extend the field performance of the organisation.
The WKF Athletes Commission is currently chaired by WKF Executive Committee member Davide Benetello and is formed by Douglas Brose of Brazil, Antonio Diaz of Venezuela, Nguyen Hoang Ngan of Vietnam, and Simon Klausberger of Austria.
The two new components are Ryo Kiyuna of Japan and Vassiliki Panetsidou of Greece.
The two-time European championships Greek karateka joins the commission after more than ten years competing at the highest level. The 27-year old was proclaimed continental champion in 2010 and has won three medals in Karate 1-Premier League events this year, including the golds in Rotterdam and Paris thus occupying the sixth position in the world ranking.
Just one day short of earning his second world crown, Ryo Kiyuna of Japan was elected to enlist the commission by fellow athletes from all over the world. The 26-year old karateka achieved the impressive feat of winning two consecutive gold medals in Karate’s biggest event after his victories in Bremen and now in Linz. The Japanese Male Kata ace has claimed medals in all his 10 appearances in major international competitions and maintains unbeaten record since 2013.
The new members of the WKF Athletes Commission were announced during the closing ceremony of the 2016 Karate World Championships and were greeted by WKF President Antonio Espinós.
